FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. My child was a member of a Minor league team last year, does he/she need to attend tryouts again this year?

A. Yes. There are two reasons for this. The first reason is that your child may have the skills to be drafted onto a major league team. The managers and coaches will evaluate all players on draft day in order to determine which children are ready to move forward. The second reason is that at minor league level new teams are created/drafted each year. So if your child was on a specific minor league team last year, chances are he/she will be selected to play on a different minor league team this year. You still need to fill out a registration form in the timeframe specified by GJB so that GJB knows your child plans to play baseball this year.

Q. My child was a member of a Major league team last year, does he/she need to attend tryouts again this year.

A. No. Once a child is in majors, they do not need to tryout each year.  Starting in 2010, they however, will be put back into the draft and selected to possibly a new team.  Evaluations from their previous major league Manager and coaches will be used to rate them in the draft.  You still need to fill out a registration form in the timeframe specified by GJB so that GJB knows your child plans to play baseball this year. If you do not register your child on time, his/her roster slot will be given to another child.

Q. My child did not attend mandatory tryouts for GJB and is between the ages of 9 to 12. Will my child be able to play baseball?

A. No. The reason for this is because within a few days after the tryouts the managers and coaches meet for the yearly player draft. Each team selects 12 players and when those 12 players are selected the team is full. There is however two option available for you and your child to pursue. The first option is to submit a written excuse prior to tryouts. A make up session may be held to evaluate players with a written excuse. The second option is to have your child placed on a waiting list just in case a team during the course of the year loses a player.

Q. My child is between the ages of 7 and 8; does he/she need to attend tryouts?

A. No. Your child will automatically be assigned to a Farm team.

Q. My child is 8 and would like to move to the Minor league this year, can he/she do this?

A. Yes. GJB encourages all 8 year olds to stay in the Farm league for an additional year of player development but also recognizes that a few players may benefit from moving up to the minor leagues. If this is something you and your child would like to pursue, then your child will be required to attend the mandatory tryouts for the children 9 and older. Attending tryouts for a minor league team does not guarantee that your child will be drafted to a minor league team. If your child does not earn a roster slot on a minor league team then your child will still be able to play in the farm league.

Q. My child is between the ages of 5 and 6; does he/she need to attend tryouts?

A. No. Your child will automatically be assigned to a T-Ball team.

Q. My child is 6 and played T-Ball last year and I would like him/her to play Farm this year, can we do this?

A. No. GJB local rules require that all 5 and 6 year old children play in the T-Ball league only.
